Bay Ridge Blogfest '08

WIBR and the Rover: The Statler and Waldorf of the Brooklyn Blog Scene...

Brooklyn Blogfest ’08 was held at The Brooklyn Lyceum in Park Slope last night. I did not attend – instead a very special invite-only Bay Ridge Blogfest was held at AREO on 3rd avenue and 84th street. The attendees were the Bay Ridge Rover, Tony “Paulie Walnuts” Sirico, of Sopranos fame, and me. Tony and the Rover have known each other for years, and regularly dine together (not gay…trust me).

This was my first time meeting either of these gentlemen, and I must say – it was a trip. Apparently, the Rover has his own table in this pseudo-Mafioso dining establishment, where the food was overpriced, forgettable, and not very appealing (much like the regular patrons of the restaurant).

A variety of topics were discussed – mostly revolving around Tony’s criminal record and how we’ve all seemed to have beaten up the same people at various times and at varying locations around the Ridge at one time or another. We then took a walking tour of 3rd avenue, and reflected on various places where people have said the wrong things and had to pay for it, physically.

Tony impressed with his vast knowledge of the Bay Ridge bar scene, and on the various incarnations of the local bars; what occupied a given location in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and how much whichever place is there now “sucks balls”. He said that often.

Mr. Sirico said he is an avid reader of all of the blogs, not only the ones based out of Bay Ridge. Although a fan of them all, he admitted that he enjoys our blogs the most, referring to Rover and myself as the Statler and Waldorf of the Bay Ridge blog scene – always ready to snipe and jab and barb – and admit it, you love us for it just as much as he does.

...Gunnin' for you'se all.
